Some Useful Websites

 

  • American Memory: searches American primary sources, including early Congressional documents, the Declaration of Independence, The Federalist Papers, the Constitution, etc. Also offers documents, maps, motion pictures, photos & prints and sound recordings.
  • Ad*Access: funded by the Duke Endowment "Library 2000" Fund, presents images and database information for over 7,000 advertisements printed in U.S. and Canadian newspapers and magazines between 1911 and 1955.
  • EuroDocs: links to European primary historical documents that are transcribed, reproduced in facsimile, or translated.
  • The Avalon Project: collection of over 150 historical documents ranges from some pre-18th century titles through the 20th century. Includes a title and author index to all documents.
  • World War II Poster Collection: Northwestern University Library
  • PBS: American Experience: American Experience and many other PBS programs are great sources of information.
    • Do a search for World War II
  • National Archives and Records Administration:  archives public documents of all varieties and relevant topics that encompass the "American Experience," with links to related sites:
  • BBC Radio: includes key speeches, eye-witness reports and some of the most evocative sounds of the War. There is an emphasis on the lives of British children, including evacuation.
  • You Tube: huge video source
